Hi everyone,
If you are new:
Welcome to the Board!
This thread is intended to be a general resource for new members. Thanks to our webmaster Wes for tacking it on the top!
Some members think it is a good idea to return to this message occasionally, even after shedding the "new" status, and explore further.
Many of the folks here are Christians, but many of us aren't.
If you have suggestions for other helpful resources and links, please post them, keeping the additional commentary *short and to the point*.
Also, feel free to Instant Message me, and I'll add links to the top here.
If you have never posted before, I invite you to start a new thread, rather than adding to this one. When you are on the General board screen (with the list of all the threads) click on the "new thread" icon on the right side of the dark blue border. Tell us your story, and why you're here. Feel free to ask questions or respond to other threads.
Common abbreviations:
MB - is masturbation
SO- significant other
SA - sex addict or sex addiction (or Sexaholics Anonymous)
PA - porn addict
IMO - in my opinion
Some 12-step Program abbreviations
AA - Alcoholics Anonymous
HP - Higher Power
SAA - Sex Addicts Anonymous
SLAA - Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous
OA - Overeaters Anonymous
A burning folder indicates that something is a "hot topic." I think that happens when there is more than one page.
Quoting - look at the upper right side of a post. You'll see a little icon that says "quote." If you click on that, a new window will open with the text quoted from that message.
I like to delete everything except the part I want to quote, and then I add my own response.
Another way of quoting - when you are composing a message, click on the icon above the smiley faces that looks like a piece of paper with an arrow coming out of it. (it's second from the right.) Then paste your quoted text in between the brackets.
Modifying and Deleting - When you are logged in, look on the upper right side of the message. If it's someone else's post, you will just see the "quote" icon. If it's your post, you will have the option to "delete" or "modify" your post. That's useful if you realize you want to re-word something, or you accidentally posted your message twice.
After you post 50 times, you automatically get promoted to "Junior Member" and get 2 stars.
100 posts = Full Member (3 stars)
250 posts = Senior Member (4 stars)
500 posts = Tribal Elder (5 stars)
If you are a partner of an SA, you may want to post on
The Partner's Side of the Board
If you are a female sex addict and looking to discuss your recovery with other female sex addicts, please contact the webmaster through Personal Message and he can refer you to a private board that has been set up. Of course, you are welcome here too.
Please keep in mind that both men and women alike suffer from SA/PA. We are eager to keep this site friendly and welcoming for both genders.
Another interesting aspect of the board - it automatically translates "bad" words to gibberish. (sometimes in a funny way): "c0ckroach" gets translated to "*#&$#@roach."
(Thanks to Mardole for some editing suggestions in this thread.)
