I'm not special. I haven't accomplished this on my own. Any one of you can have this type of sobriety. Let's not celebrate the captain - let's celebrate that we're all here and realize the need to try and change. Look at this precious quote. It reflects true humility. The people with major egos are not likely to rack up 900 days. However, the people who have the courage to say, "I need help. I can not do this on my own" are going in the right direction. I greatly applaud your sobriety, CF. It will do me a great deal of good to look closely at some of your posts and try to learn from them. God bless

Just a quick reply to a couple of questions...
No, I didn't do the steps in a structured way, and this isn't to be construed as suggesting they don't work or if you shouldn't do them. I did the steps in a very accidental way. As I progressed through recovery, I began looking at the steps and realized I was well on my way - completely by accident. Still though, I haven't formally done them and this is a topic of contention by many of those who have, who look at me as a 'slip waiting to happen' because I haven't. Rightly so they have their opinion, but I'd much rather continue on this path, that has afforded me the sobriety, than change course at this late hour.
Regarding my humility - that has to be the first time anyone has made such a suggestion. Many here are turned-off by my caustic ego-centric nature, a nature I have been intentionally trying to change - but one cannot change a life of selfishness to a life of selflessness over night, so I keep plugging along. Maybe some of the effort is starting to pay off, who knows.

Thanks for your response Captain. I'm not one of those people that say if your not doing the steps you aren't recovering. You are doing what works for you and it must work otherwise you wouldn't be on day 900 and something

Captain,
I needed to see this message. Thank you for sharing, and for celebrating that we all are here.
I made it to 829, then a culmination of stressors, complacency, and addict-speak rationalizations got me to 1 again yesterday.
Optomistically, it's 829 out of 830, but this is definitely a wake-up call to me.
I have moved since my last SAA meeting, but I know where & when they are now, and I'm committed to going.
I have been away from this valuable place for too long.
Knowing that I have made it to 829, the 830/900/forever figures are possible & reachable, just 1 day at a time.
Thanks for continuing to be here and sharing of yourself, Awakening

Awakening,
Thank you for sharing your story. Yours is equally as important, and for me, even more important than the 900 day success story.
829 is absolutely amazing to me. If all you have is a 1 day slip and you really can re-commit, I imagine you will be stronger than ever. Your next record can be endless.
I will keep in mind my own vulnerabilities as I move on ahead with increasing days of being P-free. I will remind myself of others like you who have done so well for so long, and yet remain vulnerable. Thank you for sharing this.
