Hi everyone,
today is day one of my sobriety, I have made attempts in the past to give up with varying degress of success but I have always end up denying I have a problem, but I do have a problem and am deeply troubled, I am a pornography and sex addict and a compulsive masturbator and I have been for nearly ten years now but the time has come when i must stop this so- my plan is- I started masturbating when i was 12 and viewing pornogrpahy when I was 13, so it is actually nearer 12 years, when i was 15 i was diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder
1)To remain completely celibate for 100 days 2) To ensure I take my medication at the same time every day 3) to start counselling sessions at the university as soon as they are available I will send the email tonight 4) to take up my interest in buddhism again and meditate at least once a week. 5) to contact a friend every day 6) to attend a buddhist group in the community 7) to stay positive
That is my plan and I ask you for your support, i will let you know how my first day goes tomorrow,
regards
Dan

Welcome Dan. Meditate every day if you can.
I'm fairly new too but there are some awesome people here. My overused advice is when you have the urge to act-out, come here instead. Read, post, whatever. But come here.
Your gonna get a boatload of support, read it, heed it, pitch the bull.
I was addicted to masturbating for over 30 years. Porn, about 12 years. This site, and this site alone has kept me sober for over two months now. There are lot's of other good support systems out there, you will hear of many. Check them out but this place is special.

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the board. You can use this board as a foundation for your recovery. Try to visit daily. As Cammy mentioned, start a daily journal, ask questions, above all be active, not proactive in your recovery.
It looks you have a good plan in place, work it, stick to it every day.
BTW, If you feel comfortable discussing how your schizo-affective disorder has effected you and your addiction, please do so. We are large, diverse community here and you should get some good feedback.
Thank you for joining us on this walk to recovery.

hi camm bf and tld thankyou for you messages of support. I have started a journal on the journal page. I think meditating every day is a good idea but I have found in the past difficult to stick to so is not something i am going to beat myself up about if i cant do it but see it as a positive thing to do whenever i can. I think my illness has effected me in many ways, in many ways i am very happy and well adjusted but I suppose I also use my addiction to deal with the underlying feelings and depression and paranoia that i havent dealt with yet and when i tried to be celibate before I had bad anxiety and paranoia come back. But unless i deal with at some stage then my life will never move forwards, Dan
