what about this part? Shouldn't younger teenagers be able to post? I got addicted when I was 13. It would have been great to read things and post when I was that age.

lamaboy -
I see the need for teens to be able to get help, but when they were allowed to join and post, you'd have all these older men giving him advice (or asking questions), and it was just creepy.

ABout age--I strongly suggest changing the minimum posting age to 16. I see the creepiness problem, but I think it's offset by the many adolescents needing help.

The age was set to 18 because of the potential liability Wes has by allowing a person under 18 on the board, and to protect those under 18. There was a situation in which an adult PA, was, in essence, grooming an teenaged PA, and Wes wants to prevent such a situation from happening again. It is unfortunate that people under 18 can't post, but, unfortunately, it's the easiest way to protect them from a potential disaster.

Wes,
I liked what you said that you are not "ANTI" anyone. You are and WE are PRO recovery!
Looks good! Thanks! W.

By not permitting teens to register, this site can remain a safe place for all its members. However, there is not anything preventing teens from reading and learning all they can. Teens are counseled to seek support from parents and trained counselors who can help them manage and gain perspective on their behavior.

Wes- as to the age requirement.... is there a way on the new board to put a links page for teens in need of resources? I know there is not much out there, but if they get "here" and they can't post, having something they can pursue would be helpful. Just a thought. I am not sure where liability falls into that. It is a pickle.. unfortunately, even if you had a "teens only" section, you can't patrol people lying about their ages and trolling. And yet our teens need help. Ah well...

I get it about the age restriction. At least they can read posts. Wes - thanks for all the hard work you do on this board!

Hello Wes, This sounds good to me. I am wondering whether there might be a way to import entire journals, by special request (to you) from the individual journal owners, from here to the new board? This would provide greater continuity in the journey represented by a journal. Would such importing be possible? Thanks, Still

Sadly, Proboards will not permit me to access any data files. So the best I can do is suggest you set up a link from your old journal to your new journal, and vice versa. There will be an overlap of at least a week when both boards are operating. - Wes

I should have known better than to announce a specific launch date. There's still a lot to do to make sure the board is ready for the transition, and my work life has been quite demanding as of late. But the progress is good. I'm still on a learning curve with the system, though, and am hesitant to open it up completely.
If you'd be interested in BETA testing the new board, please let me know by SENDING ME A PERSONAL MESSAGE. If there are a lot of you, I may not get back to you, and I apologize for that, but sometime next week I might start BETA testing the system. - Wes
