The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Do we fear him? Or do we think of him as some sugar daddy in the sky?

Pardon for sin and a peace that endures. Your own dear presence to cheer and to guide.
Strength for today. And bright hope for tomorrow.

Luke 14: 25 - 33 25 Now great multitudes accompanied him; and he turned and said to them, 26 "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, `This man began to build, and was not able to finish.' 31 Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace. 33 So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Sometimes our natural inclination is to do just enough to get by. But Jesus is saying here, you've got to go at something full tilt. You can't build a tower if you only have half the materials. You can't win a war with only half an army. In the same vein, we can't overcome Porn Addiction with only half an effort. We have to commit ourselves fully to overcome this. Half measures won't do. The measure of charity may be taken from the want of desires. As desires diminish in the soul, charity increases in it; and when it no longer feels any desire, then it possesses perfect charity.
-- St. Augustine
I am finding this to be true. As I rid myself of the desire for P, I find that I have more room in my soul for the love of my wife and family. This has been a welcome change.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. --Psalms 51:10
King David lost everything through his lust, treachery, errant desires and homicide, all for the sake of Bathsheba. He was a broken man who had fallen from the highest seat in all of Israel. David didn't blame God and demand to know why this had happened. Instead, he humbly turned to God and asked for forgiveness. God helped David rebuild his life and achieve even greater things in his life.
I am here because I fell too. It took me turning to God and asking for forgiveness in order to get my life together. I am thankful today to have a new lease on life.
Peace

Hey Guys,
I am a Christian and I have been struggling with an addiction to P for quite a while now. I quit for just over a week but I got back on it and haven't been able to stop since. I honestly think God led me to this site, because after looking at porn I felt bad and googled 'Stop masturbating' and came across this site. I used to pray for God to help me with this addiction, but I always thought God was alienating me because I kept coming back to it. I'm now going to quit it forever, I pledge with my whole heart never to do it again. I now realise my past attempts were half hearted, and I remember from reading the Bible once that Jesus said your faith will stumble if you go it alone (or something like that). I hope you guys can help me overcome this.

0bs3n3, Sorry to hear about your struggles. I think you will find much here that can be helpful. I have struggled for much of my life with this addiction to pornography, so I can tell you it is not an easy thing to rid yourself of, but it can be done. You recognize the harm this can do, and that is a good thing. However, since you are only 15, as indicated by your member info, I STRONGLY urge you to read the following post: lightwave.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1168538606It is aimed squarely at you and your situation. Be well on your journey to purity. MrOuch

Hey Guys, I I always thought God was alienating me because I kept coming back to it. That's never going to happen. You can ask Jesus for forgiveness a million times and he will grant it every time with complete understanding and love. As he said to Sister Faustina "The flames of my mercy are burning me. I desire to pour them out on human souls. It hurts me when they do not ask for it" In other words he has so much mercy (forgiveness) to give, it causes him so much extra pain that you do not ask him for it.

1 I will always thank the Lord; I will never stop praising him. 2 I will praise him for what he has done; may all who are oppressed listen and be glad! 3 Proclaim with me the Lord's greatness; let us praise his name together! 4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me; he freed me from all my fears. Psalm 34:1-4 Today Lord, help me find the strength to live my life in a way that pleases you.

The great danger for family life, in the midst of any society whose idols are pleasure, comfort and independence, lies in the fact that people close their hearts and become selfish. Pope John Paul II

Wow Rock!! That's an awesome quote. Isn't sad that it's so true. We become so self-focussed on our own pleasures and comforts that we shut out those who seek to connect with us. We shun the real for the profane, with the end result being misery.

After you have made a decision that is pleasing to God, the Devil may try to make you have second thoughts. Intensify your prayer time, meditation, and good deeds. For if Satan's temptations merely cause you to increase your efforts to grow in holiness, he'll have an incentive to leave you alone.
-- St. Ignatius of Loyola
Read work harder when you think things are going well, becase that's when we're most vulnerable to temptation.

He who does not meditate acts as one who never looks into the mirror and so does not bother to put himself in order, since he can be dirty without knowing it. The person who meditates and turns his thoughts to God who is the mirror of the soul, seeks to know his defects and tries to correct them, moderates himself in his impulses and puts his conscience in order.
-- Saint Pio of Pietrelcina I needed to read this today. Maybe someone else does too. MrOuch
