Welcome all,
I came up with this idea immediately after coming off a binge. Nothing I was doing seemed to be working. I was so angry I could hardly stand it. I needed to create a sense of accountability, feel like I am not alone in this, and feel a sense of accomplishment towards the goal of sobriety. It was about 3 a.m. when I began brainstorming, which spawned this thread's creation. It has since helped me immensely, I hope it will do the same for you. It is a daily check in thread with a twist, there are measurable goals called graduation dates, and you earn diplomas. Here is how it works:
- The first week will have a graduation date every day, as the first week is the worst.
- Then you graduate weekly, until you hit a month, then monthly until you hit a year.
- Every day you earn a diploma
- The first seven diplomas will be: S,T,R,O,N,G and W: one for each day the last one is W for Week. I chose these letters because the idea is to build up strength and stamina...getting STRONGER...get it?
- After the first Week you keep track of the days with numbers, count to 7, give yourself another W,
- Collect 4 W's, you get an M for "month" start counting again, get to 30, give yourself another M
- Collect 12 M's you get a Y for "year"
- IF YOU SLIP, you earn a comma, signaling you to pause and reflect on why you slipped, then you just start over again the next day with a S
- You will keep track of these yourself, but post them to the group, after your name
- Here is an example of what a diploma streak might look like after a while:
Newbie STRO, STRONGWWWM12, STRONGWWWMMMM15
- You define your own goal, not necessary to share it, but feel free to if you wish, most people are here for P, MB, or both.
Something else that has helped me that I suggest is celebrating every day by giving yourself a diploma and posting what sobriety has given you that day, keeps it real.
At First, most people will collect lots of S,T,R,O,N,G's which is the whole idea, the longer you go the STRONGER you get until you work up to a Week, then a Month, then a Year. Every day is a new day, you get stronger as you go and track your progress and a slip is not the end of the world, but a sign to reflect on what you are missing. PLEASE JOIN IN, i don't want to do this alone. When you slip, let me/us know, so we can help you find a strategy around it. The idea is to train you to take it one day at a time until you get get to a week, then KEEP that mentality through the month, then through the year. If we find bugs, we can correct them along the way. Godspeed.
